VISION2010 Vision 2010 is God’s plan for our ministry that will include a progressive, state-of-the art worship and ministry facility with the latest technological instruments that will allow us to reach the world with the Gospel. New Pilgrim Baptist Church was founded in 1922 as an African-American congregation. Eighty-eight years later, we are “A Multicultural Christian Fellowship” with members from 30 nations and services in both English and Spanish. We have preached the gospel in nursing homes, Utah parks and neighborhoods, behind the walls of the state prison, on a Navajo reservation and on the streets of Puerto Rico. We have seen lives transformed as we remain committed to sharing the gospel with people of all nations. Over the years, our congregation has experienced tremendous growth and our current facility is no longer adequate to meet the demands of ministry. We consistently make use of our overflow room on Sunday mornings and we have run out of classroom space for our multiple Sunday School, Awana, Bible Study, Vacation Bible School and Bible Institute classes. Our present structure is aging and the constant repairs deplete resources that could otherwise be used for ministry. Simply put: It’s time to rebuild! Our mission will persist, but our new building will allow us to be more efficient and effective. Our new building will be located at 5133 South Heath Ave. in Kearns, Utah. We have an exciting opportunity to impact this neighborhood. Plans for ministry in Kearns include a low-cost Christian child development center and after school program, GED, ESL and computer classes and a gang prevention and rehabilitation program.
Immediate Need
The new worship and ministry facility will include a sanctuary with seating to accommodate 500 people. It will be equipped with sufficient classrooms and office space. This 25,000 square foot structure will be housed on 4.5 acres of land, that will allow for future expansion. The projected cost for construction of the facility is $4.2 million. The sale of our current building raised a portion of the cost, however, we are still in need of $1.5 million.
